UNCG researcher awarded $300,000 grant to develop sand fly trap

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK - A UNC Greensboro researcher, Gideon Wasserberg, has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the N.C. Biotechnology Center to develop a trap for sand flies.

The traps could inhibit disease transmission and reduce the population of blood-fed females. Sand fly control, especially important to the health of overseas military personnel, can have a major impact on the biodefense industry in North Carolina, the center said.
