N.C. jobless rate falls with more residents leaving workforce

Another large departure of discouraged North Carolinians from the workforce during April contributed to the state’s jobless rate reaching its lowest level since the recession began 5½ years ago.

The rate fell 0.3 percentage points to 8.9 percent, the N.C. Commerce Department reported Friday. The rate dropped for the third consecutive month.
