Reynolds American quarterly profits up 6.7 percent

Reynolds American Inc. reported today a 6.7 percent jump in second quarter net income to $492 million, with higher pricing and market-share gains for Camel and Pall Mall offsetting slightly lower sales and the cost of launching national distribution of electronic cigarette Vuse.

Diluted earnings were up 8 cents to 92 cents a share. The average earnings forecast was 87 cents by five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research. Analysts typically do not include one-time gains and charges in their forecasts.
